University of Saskatchewan midfielder Seth Handeby was awarded the President's Trophy as the top defensive player in Canadian university football.
The six-foot-three, 245-pound defensive end was all over the field for the Huskies in seven regular-season games, totaling 41.5 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions. Through four playoff games, he added 19.5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and two forced tackles.
The Saskatoon, Sask., native is the fourth Saskatchewan product to win the award in U Sports history, joining Nelson Lokombo (2019), Mike Letendre (1999) and Warren Muzyka (1998). He defeated Laurier linebacker Jesse Wilkins, Laval linebacker Justin Cloutier and St. FX by Owen Watrick.
Khandeby was selected 34th overall in the fourth round of the 2025 CFL Draft with the understanding that he would return to school to pursue an engineering degree. He was one of the top athletes at the CFL combine in March, running a 4.7 forty-yard dash, 4.15 short shuttle and 6.88 three-cone despite his massive frame.
In just 52 U Sports games, Khandeby has collected 221 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, six forced fumbles and two interceptions.
The Saskatchewan Huskies and Montreal Carabins will meet in the Vanier Cup at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Saturday, November 22. The match is scheduled to kick off at 2:15 pm IST.
