Santa Margarita prepares for basketball showdown against St. John Bosco

A week before the Trinity League opener against St. John Bosco at home, Santa Margarita continued its preparation Friday night by defeating defending State Open Division champion Eastvale Roosevelt 65-49 at the JSerra Tournament.

The Eagles are 18-2 and have their final preparation Saturday against Fairfax at St. Francis Stadium before taking on the Braves on Jan. 9.

Santa Margarita nearly blew the lead in the second half before pulling out the win. The Eagles led 16-2 at the start of the game. Drew Anderson had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Kayden Bailey added 14 points and Brayden Kayman 13.

Harvard-Westlake 67, J. Serra 50: Joe Sterling had a disappointing third quarter, scoring 11 points and making three threes to help the Wolverines (16-2) take a 10-point lead after being deadlocked 24-24 at halftime. He finished with 23 points. Pierce Thompson made some great shots in the second half and scored 13 points. Dominic Bento had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jayden Biles scored 26 points and Earl Bryson had 19 for Jay Serra.

58 St. Francis St., 41 Fairfax St.: The Golden Knights (15-2) got 18 points, 11 rebounds, 10 blocks and eight assists from center Sherif Millogo.

Seattle Rainier Beach 75, Mater Dei 67: Former Sherman Oaks Notre Dame head coach Tyran Stokes scored 26 points for Rainier Beach in Arizona. Zane Majeed led Mater Dei with 28 points.

Servite 76, Rolling Hills Prep 72: The Friars had a good non-league win going into Trinity League play.

Campbell Hall 61, Arcadia 54: The Vikings earned their biggest win of the season. Ian Britt finished with 21 points. Christian Rogers scored 15 points.

Inglewood 112, St. Paul 57: Jason Crow Jr., averaging 43.9 points, scored 50 points in the win over Morningside.

Redondo Union 89, Santa Barbara 54: Chase Holley scored 41 points for the Sea Hawks (15-3).

Calabasas 66, El Camino Real 49: Johnny Thyfault scored 17 points for Calabasas.

La Mirada 68, Crespi 57: The Matadores (11-6) gave their Southern Section Open Division playoff hopes a boost by eliminating the Celts. Jordyn Houston scored 17 points.

Heritage Christian 59, Whittier Christian 21: Houston Roll scored 17 points in the Olympic League game.

Girls basketball

Ontario Christian 100, Carondelet 49: No deduction, Ontario Christian 16-0. Tatyana Griffin scored 32 points and 11 rebounds. Kalina Smith added 29 points.

Brentwood 73, Thousand Oaks 50: The Eagles handed the Thousand Oaks their second loss of the season. Rina White scored 21 points.

Troy 59, Sonora 42: Lexi Jocko scored a career-high 26 points for Troy in the league opener.
