Samuel Montembeault still has the upper hand over the Panthers

The Canadiens played their second game in two nights against the Florida Panthers at the Bell Centre. The defending champions were in town for the first time this season.

The only change in the home team's line-up was the return of Samuel Montembeault. His first appearance at the Bell Center since returning from Laval.

Here's the Habs lineup:

For the Panthers, Brad Marchand was not in the lineup due to an injury he suffered against the Maple Leafs last Tuesday.

Here is the Panther lineup with Sergei Bobrovsky in the net:

Just two minutes into the first period. Noah Dobson fired home a shot from the point after Oliver Kapanen won the faceoff.

A powerful and accurate shot hit the goal net.

1:0 Montreal.

Jayden Struble's mistake behind the net nearly sent Samuel Montembeault into the cage, but Montembeault stayed alert and made the save.

Struble had his goalkeeper to thank.

Towards the end of the period, Juraj Slafkovsky skated the puck in front of the net, and Oliver Kapanen tossed it into the air and sent it into Bobrovsky's goal.

The Habs doubled their lead.

Samuel Montembeault had a big game so far, but when he went to get the puck behind the net, he passed it right behind him… to Sam Bennett, who didn't miss his chance.

The Panthers forward threw the disc into the abandoned goal.

Despite the defending champions' dominance in the second period, Alexandre Texier doubled his side's lead with six minutes left in the period.

The French player sent Alexandre Carrier's pass over the goal line.

After 40 minutes of play the score was 3:1 in favor of the Habs.

Early in the period, Phillip Danault gets sent off for a high stick… it wasn't his stick.

Fortunately for the Habs, the Panthers were unable to close the gap on the power play.

Him again! Alexandre Texier tried to be generous in his one-on-one match with Cole Caufield. And when he tried to pass, the puck came back to him.

The latter fired directly over Bobrovsky, who was lying on his back.

Fresh out of the box, Sam Bennett (yes, him again) collected Montembeault's return to reduce the deficit to two goals.

The Panthers player, who was ignored by Team Canada, scored his second goal of the game.

Juraj Slafkovskiy scored into an empty net without throwing the puck into the net.

Slafa The stick was broken by a Panthers defender as he was about to take the disc into an abandoned goal.

Goal counted!

Seconds later, Alexandre Texier kicked the puck into the air and scored a hat-trick in the process.

Hats off to the skating rink.

Final score: 6-2 in favor of the Canadiens.

The Canadiens next face the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday at the Bell Centre.

after a while

– It was the Habs' seventh straight win over the Florida Panthers and second of the season.

– French Habs forward Alexandre Texier is on a two-game offensive streak in 24 hours. The No. 85 has six points, including four goals, in two matches.
