Samuel Montembeault shines in victory over Golden Knights

The Canadiens returned to action this afternoon. After a great win in Utah on Wednesday night, the Habs head to Vegas to take on the Golden Knights this afternoon.

On this occasion, Alexandre Texier played his first game in a Habs uniform, and Arber Czekay returned to the lineup..

Here's the Habs lineup:

As a member of the Golden Knights, Mitch Marner faced the Habs for the first time in his new colors.

Here is the home team lineup:

The first period was pretty quiet, but Samuel Montembeault showed some good things.

He was very, very hard.

And the club management gave him a helping hand. Zachary Bolduc, who really rediscovered his wanderlust in the first line, scored again today.

And again it was on the road that he hit the target, hehe.

After 20 minutes, the Habs led 1–0.

In the second, Cole Caufield found himself in a tight spot with the puck… but that didn't stop him from scoring a beautiful goal.

Special mention goes to Alexandre Carrier, who was able to create the scoring chance.

Montembeault played confidently again in the second match… although his club multiplied the missed chances when they broke away.

Jake Evans, among others, missed his chance, as did Cole Caufield and Oliver Kapanen before him.

After 40 minutes the score was 2-0 in favor of the Habs.

And early in the third, Evans got another chance to break away.

This time he didn't miss: he scored his team's third goal. Alexandre Texier scored his first point in a Habs uniform in the episode.

But when it became clear that the Habs were facing a lockout, Mark Stone had other plans.

He scored his team's first goal with a few minutes left in the game… and let's just say it's hard to blame Montembeault when you look at the defense in front of him.

However, the Habs held on for a big win over the Golden Knights. Juraj Slafkowski completed the scoring with a goal into an empty net in impressive sequence.

Two wins in two matches against two good Western clubs: that's nice.

Final score: 4-1 Montreal

The Canadiens return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Avalanche (who will be wearing Nordiques colors). The game will start at 15:00 and will be broadcast on RDS.

Extensions

– The Habs played a really good game this afternoon. Facing a good team, it multiplied quality scoring chances, but did not give Knights many. And when they did, Samuel Montembeault was there… except once, hehe..

– In the third period, Ivan Demidov received treatment on the bench. Fortunately, there is more fear than harm.

– Nick Suzuki appears to have finally recovered from his foot injury. The captain was dominant since the start of the trip, and it can be said that the three-day break before Wednesday's game did him good. With three consecutive streaks of two games in two days approaching, it is encouraging that Suzuki appears to have regained his health.

– Lane Hutson got his mojo back .

– Good news for the Habs: The Avalanche had to work overtime this afternoon in Minnesota, and Jared Bednar's squad even lost to the Wild in a shootout. It won't be easy for the Canadiens to play tomorrow at 3:00 pm in Colorado… but the locals are probably tired, too.
