Samsung TV Plus, Spotify launch ‘The Ringer’ FAST channel

Samsung TV Plus is partnering with Spotify to launch the first-ever Free Advertising Supported TV (FAST) channel. Call from Spotify.

Founded by podcaster and sports columnist Bill Simmons in 2016 and acquired by the streaming giant in 2020, The Ringer is a media organization with a website, a podcast network, and a sports and culture video production house with podcasts such as The Bill Simmons Podcast. The Zach Lowe Show and The Rewatchables.

According to a press release, Spotify and Samsung TV have teamed up to make more of the streaming service's video podcasts available on Samsung TVs. The press release notes that through Samsung TV Plus, advertisers can exclusively access podcast audiences within FAST.

Samsung isn't the only company investing in increasingly popular FAST Channels as CBC Launches FAST Channel ddedicated to the popular Canadian show Schitt's Creekwhich marks the sixth channel launched by CBC.

This new channel will offer The Ringer's collection of podcasts, including:

  • Revised: Hosted by Bill Simmons, Chris Ryan, Sean Fennessy and others, this show explores classic films including Back to the Future And Stranger.
  • Higher Education with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay: The podcast focuses primarily on politics, news and culture and offers, according to a press release, “incisive ideas and lively debate.”
  • 16th minute Speidi: Hosts of former reality TV stars Heidi and Spencer Pratt discuss pop culture, social media trends and the latest celebrity drama in short episodes.
  • Book of Basketball 2.0: Based on Simmons' 2009 best-selling book, the podcaster covers iconic games, players and teams, while interviewers with players and top media figures discuss how far the NBA has come and where it's headed.
  • Overall picture: Another movie (and awards) review podcast, this time hosted by Sean Fennessy and Amanda Dobbins.
  • Call-verse: Dubbed “the hub of nerd culture,” this pop culture podcast includes in-depth analysis of the Star Wars and Marvel franchises.
  • Dave Chang Show: The host is the founder of the Momofuku restaurant group and a Netflix host. Dinner time live Chang focuses on a variety of different topics with an ever-changing guest list.
  • Recipe club: Also hosted by David Chang along with Chris Ying and guests, the show explores different recipes and cooking techniques in each episode.
  • House R: Mallory Rubin and Joanna Robinson explore topics such as Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Marvel, and more.

The Ringer channel will be available on Samsung TV Plus, which is available not only on Samsung TVs, but also on Samsung Galaxy, Smart Monitor and Family Home devices.
