The Screen Actors Guild Awards are now called the Actor Awards.
The show, commonly known as the SAG Awards, will officially become the SAG-AFTRA Acting Awards in its next incarnation on March 1, 2026, when Netflix will stream the ceremony, as it has since 2023.

The move was announced Friday to the board of directors of SAG-AFTRA, the union that gives awards and represents American film and television actors, among others.
The SAG Awards began in 1995 and annually recognize performances in film and primetime television. They're an increasingly prominent part of Hollywood's awards season, in part because all of its nominees and winners tend to be famous faces. It usually takes place just before the Academy Awards ceremony and is considered a key Oscar winner.
SAG-AFTRA explained the change on its website:
“Since the show began more than 30 years ago, our iconic statuette has always been called 'The Actor,' and simply changing the name of the show to reflect the award itself made clear sense,” SAG-AFTRA said. “We wanted to provide a clearer understanding of what the show is about to our domestic and global audiences – we honor film and television actors.”
The organization said the change had been discussed for some time, but did not provide details.
