Ryan Coogler’s X-Files reboot coming before Black Panther 3

The Rebirth of Ryan Coogler X-Files happens, and it happens before the writer-director next Black Panther movie. Coogler said so during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitzoffering an explanation of why he's full-time on The X-Files and a rough outline of what his reboot will look like.

For Coogler, an important reason to watch The X-Files again is nostalgia. “I watched this show with my mom,” Coogler told Horowitz. “This is one of the most beautiful American television shows ever made. Chris Carter will tell you what he tried to do Kolchak: Night Stalkerand for me this is the whole point: when you are like an artist [are] trying to capture your influences and create something completely new.”

Coogler apparently likes the formula of “a skeptic paired with a believer” who are trying to solve a case, a la True Detective season 1. Plus, as Coogler notes, X-Files this is the show that Vince Gilligan directed on the map. If only we had Breaking Bad, Better call SaulAnd For many in a world where there is no X-Files? I'm confident that Scully and Mulder will be able to solve this case.

As for what he thinks about X-Files might look like this: “We intend to show both the monsters of the week and the overarching conspiracy,” Coogler said, just like the original series. Coogler adds that he got some “tips on how to make television” from Gilligan himself, so hopefully the writer, producer and director of the original X-Files there were some good tips.

While we're still waiting for some important details about when and where the new one will be X-Filesit's “what I do now,” Coogler said. “After this, Black Panther will appear.” I'm lucky to be working on such cool things. It's also nice to have something that the fans put pressure on. [and] there are a lot of really smart people that I don’t want to let down.”

But Coogler cleverly avoided going into more specific details about the X-Files revival. When asked indirectly about the actors returning, Coogler told Horowitz, “I'm a big fan [Gillian Anderson]big fan of David [Duchovny]. That's all I can say.”

X-Files Originally aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002 for nine seasons consisting of 202 episodes.
