Here's a collection of reactions to this year's Globe nominations. Comments have been edited for clarity and brevity.
“The biggest lesson for me, and this is going to sound corny, but the biggest lesson is how much I love my job. Professionally, I'm married to movies, and with this movie, I felt like I was renewing my vows, if that makes sense.”
“This is the best I've ever seen (star Michael B. Jordan). It's crazy to say that because he has some pretty significant roles in pop culture. But I felt like this was the best I've ever seen in both of those roles. I think it was a role that he could only play now, with this level of experience, at this age. And I'm just incredibly proud of him.” — in an interview with the Associated Press. Coogler was nominated as both director and producer.
I accidentally woke up at 5:30. I went to check my phone, but it was dead. So, I was trying to figure out how to get a charger and charge my phone before I could even contact my family or my team. … I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to tell such an incredible story like this. I am so lucky to be where I am at 25 years old and am in the process of achieving my dream. I'm still processing the fact that I have to be here at all.” — in an interview with AP. Infiniti is nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.
“The film is a tightrope. The character is the film, and the film is the character. So I had never done this in a feature film before, and it was unusual to have this opportunity to try. It changed me creatively and expanded my capabilities in a way that I had never had the opportunity to do before.” — in an interview with AP. Byrne is nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.
“The fact that 'Wicked' was made into two feature films: It's something that all of us involved in the series have always talked about. It was a natural progression to start reimagining how we would tell this story in cinematic terms. We were just very lucky with the people who helped us tell this story… especially (director) Jon M. Chu, whose vision and direction were extraordinary. And I think these two films together are a truly remarkable achievement on John's part.” which I think will be recognized for many years to come and will stand the test of time,” Schwartz is nominated in the Best Song category for both “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble.”
“You know, at this point in my life, when I have such a great role… it's just nice because when you do a good job, hopefully it gets recognized, and that's not always the case.” — in an interview with AP. Madigan is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Guns.
BUSH: “This is an amazing moment for everyone at Disney Animation. Seven hundred people came together to make this movie from literally all over the world. I think we have 25 countries represented by people who worked on this movie. And they poured their hearts and souls into it and created something that I'm so incredibly proud of. And we really did it together.”
HOWARD: “There's been a lot of tension in the air since the movie came out, and just excitement… I've made movies in the past that people didn't come out in droves to see, and it's much better to have people go see it in droves and call you and tell you. So just to say thank you for people going out and seeing it.” —- in an interview with AP. Bush and Howard are nominated for best animated feature, as well as in the cinematic and box office achievement categories.
I'll meet Stellan (Skarsgård) in a minute because we have a show here in Paris and I'm hoping that maybe it's a champagne night. I’m almost sure that when we come to our homeland for champagne, we must have it. …
“It's really such a joy and we're very humbled and grateful. It's not what you'd expect from a Norwegian film, but it says something about how generous the international film world has become: we can make films in different countries, in different languages, and still feel like we're being represented in the same context. So we're very grateful for that.” — in an interview with AP. Trier is nominated for best director of a motion picture.
