President Donald Trump will host Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on Sunday in the latest attempt to end four years of war.
Zelensky will meet with Trump in Florida, at the president's Mar-a-Lago estate, where he spent most of his time during the holidays. In a public statement issued ahead of the meeting, the Ukrainian leader emphasized the need to negotiate from a position of strength.
Russian and Ukrainian negotiations have repeatedly broken down over where the final territorial lines in the peace deal will be drawn.
“Ukraine is ready to do everything possible to stop this war,” Zelensky wrote on X. “For us, the number one priority – or the only priority – is ending the war. Peace is our priority. We need to be strong at the negotiating table. To be strong, we need the support of the world: Europe and the USA.”

“In this war of Russia against Ukraine, we want peace, and Russia is demonstrating a desire to continue the war. If the whole world – Europe and America – is on our side, we will stop Putin together. Because together we will all want the same thing: an end to the war, peace – a normal world, a sustainable peace, safe for the whole world,” he continued.
“If someone – be it the US or Europe – is on Russian sidethis means that the war will continue. There are no other options here. And this is a risk for all countries of the world. Because Russia will not stop, despite any agreements, no eloquent messages on their part. They will not stop at Ukraine,” Zelensky warned.

Zelensky's statement came as Russia doubled down on its attacks on Kyiv, launching a night attack Saturday involving hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles. Zelensky said the attack reflects the “true attitude” Russian President Vladimir Putin and his inner circle on display.
An overnight strike in Ukraine's capital killed at least one person and injured 27, local authorities told The Associated Press.
Trump said before his meeting with Zelensky that he would do this. take the last shots a peace agreement to end the conflict.

“He doesn't have anything unless I approve of it,” Trump told Politico Friday. “So let's see what he's got.”
