RuPaul Speaks Out Against Anti-Drag Bills

In the background nationwide legal attack by conservatives about drag performances and the LGBTQ community, drag the icon Rupa came out Wednesday with a simple but powerful message: “Register to vote so we can get these stunt queens out of office.”

IN video posted on Instagram, Drag Race The creator and host of the franchise called attempts by right-wing politicians to crack down on drag performances under the guise of protecting children as a “classic method of diverting attention” from “bullies.”

“Hey, look over there! Classic distraction, distracting us from the real issues they were elected into office to focus on: jobs, healthcare, protecting our kids from harm in their own school.” Rupa said. “But we know that bullies are incompetent at solving real problems. They look for easy targets to create an impression of efficiency.

“They think that our love, our light, our laughter and our joy are signs of weakness. But they are wrong, because this is our strength.”

The Emmy Award winner, who became internationally famous as a drag queen in the 1990s, called drag queens “the marines of the queer movement.”

He urged fans not to “distort” and “be distracted” and instead register to vote so they can elect new management.
