Publisher Tencent Games has revealed information Rules of Engagement: Gray Stateis an upcoming tactical shooter set in a horror universe.
Developed by Gray State Studio, formerly known as Aurora Studio, it comes from the same team as Ring of Elysium. Released back in 2019, Ring of Elysium achieved short-term success in the crowded battle royale market, but ultimately folded in 2023.
Rules of Engagement: Gray State uses many of its core principles, including an emphasis on tactical combat and evacuation mechanics. It also introduces new PvE elements that pit you against not only players but also environmental threats, as well as a deep class progression system with huge skill trees.
The game takes place in the Gray State, a newly discovered dimension filled with nightmarish creatures. You play as Strider, one of the elite soldiers trying to get a priceless artifact from inside.
The setting is based on a wide variety of horror scenarios, drawing inspiration from a huge number of films, books and other sources.
The game will be free to play, and the developer promises that there will be no pay-to-win monetization. In-game purchases will only be cosmetic, such as weapon skins and battle passes.
Three classes will be available at launch, with additional classes planned for later.
The game will release in 2026 following alpha testing earlier that year and will be exclusive to PC.
