For the last time youthful sophistication that is Rojay sold out Club Sodahe brought Montreal's entire underground rap scene to the stage. Now that the rapper has a new project, NEPTUNFINESSwith the world's supermanufacturer MIRACLE! coming out on December 3rd, he wanted to do it again in M for Montreal.
Backstage was chaotic to say the least – and the crowd was loud too – but the bird's eye view really helped me enjoy the variety of sounds. Longtime sound engineer Robie Studios held him down as a crowd of guests took the stage; between a particularly famous sampler Mike Shubb and Laval's trap artist Shreezthe younger generation was well represented and the champion of Quebec sovereignty Kinji00 hosted mosh pits while celebrating his 18th birthday.
Futuristic production FREAKEY! was as spacious as his outfit. Despite the entire opening act being met with delirium, the Club Soda audience couldn't have been more engrossed in Rojay's performance. As a self-described young entrepreneur, it's impressive to see how far Rojay has come since he brought his SoundCloud success to Paris when he was just a teenager.
The rapper now has an extensive discography, with songs like “Astral Drill” and “Kung Fu Margiela 2” considered modern Cloud classics that had the crowd roaring word for word. Sponsored by Kenzo, Rojay welcomed his father and merchandise salesman Gino to the stage in a touching moment.
The show was like a real celebration, and the juicy bass lines of the new project resonated well – from the balcony to the center of the club.
