Rowan Atkinson Dislikes Mr Bean, A “Selfish, Self-Serving” Anarchist

Rowan Atkinson does not speak particularly flatteringly about one of his most famous comic works.

The British actor described mr bean as a “selfish, self-serving, anarchic child”, even though his character resonates with audiences around the world.

“I don't like Mr. Bean as a person, I would definitely never want to have dinner with him,” he said at the London screening of his Netflix show. Man versus child.

“But at the same time I like him as a character because he's maybe a little like me at 10 – kind of childish and selfish and a little eccentric. But at the same time I wouldn't want him in my house.”

mr bean It is one of the UK's biggest comedy exports since launching in 1990. The brand is sold in more than 190 countries, and its YouTube channel has 35 million subscribers and over 12 billion views.

Atkinson said mr beanChildish antics and visual comedy are part of his charm, but that doesn't make him as much of a “nice guy” as Trevor Bingley in Man versus childwhich is a continuation Man vs Bee.

“Trevor Bingley in his base form is probably one of the nicest people I've ever played. Because I think most people I've played have been deeply unpleasant in some way, in fact, you know, Mr Bean is a selfish, self-serving, anarchic child. Blackadder is a kind of sarcastic, sardonic and essentially negative force, I think.

“Even Johnny English is kind of vain and lacking charm. In fact, I think Trevor turned out to be one of my nicest and most obedient creations. I really enjoy playing the good guy, which I haven't done very often.”

Atkinson has no plans for a third season yet. Man vs.… but said the decision would be made based on a review of the numbers rather than a critical assessment.

He explained: “I haven't read reviews or criticism of anything I've done since the 20th century, so I don't know what reviewers, pundits and critics think of what I do, because the only thing I care about is how many people are watching it, and would they like to watch more? That's the litmus test and a sign of success for me.”
