Rovio lays off 36 workers following underperformance of Angry Birds Dream Blast

Rovio has announced layoffs of 36 employees in response to the underperformance of Angry Birds Dream Blast.

“This fall, we were revamping our organization in response to the underperformance of one of our games, as well as to better respond to the market, move toward a more game-centric approach, and be able to quickly implement new game ideas,” the spokesperson said.

“We are creating new business units, reorganizing some of our game studios and redistributing some of the games developed in them.”

This includes changes to its studios: its Finnish location will focus on fewer games “as some of their games become independent business units” and its Barcelona studio will work on more new and existing projects.

“We are also making some changes to our management structure to reflect our role as an unlisted company, as well as tightening our relationship with SEGA,” the spokesperson continued.
