Alouette scored first

Later in the first quarter, Alexander threw a deep pass to Tyson Philpot for 37 yards to put the Alouettes within scoring range. A few plays later, short-yardage quarterback Alsa and former Rider Shea Patterson dived in from one yard out to give Montreal a 7–1 lead with the convert.

Looking for an answer, Harris connected with Donte Meyers for a 29-yard gain before finding Samuel Emilus for 24 yards on a crossing drive to the Als 12-yard line.

Upon reaching the four-yard line, the Riders decided to punt on third-and-2, and Ento picked off Harris' pass as he looked for Meyers in the end zone.

However, the Roughriders successfully fought pass interference and received the ball at the one-yard line. From there, quarterback Tommy Stevens rushed into the end zone with a short yardage to give Saskatchewan an 8-7 lead thanks to the convert.

After the Saskatchewan defense forced a two-and-out, the Roughriders' offense got back on track as running back AJ Ouellette made a 12-yard carry on the ground and then picked up 32 yards on a pass.

Roughriders score twice to end first half

After a converted play by Stevens for a five-yard gain, Harris threw a pass to Ouellette, who made it into the end zone from five yards out to give Saskatchewan a 15-7 lead with 2:38 left in the first half.

With Montreal looking to take the lead going into the half, Alexander's Hail Mary attempt was intercepted by Roland Milligan as time expired in the first half.

Early in the second half, Roughriders returner Mario Alford returned the ball 38 yards before Harris connected with Tommy Neeld for a 34-yard gain to the one-yard line.

From there, Stevens raced into the end zone for his second touchdown of the night, tying the Roughriders Gray Cup record for most touchdowns in a championship game with Corey Sheets and Hero Simon, putting the Riders up 22-7 with the convert.

Later in the third quarter, after Roughriders cornerback C.J. Reavis knocked down Alexander's deep pass attempt, the quarterback was intercepted by cornerback Tevon Campbell near midfield.

After Harris hit Emilus for a 17-yard lead on the next play, the drive ended with a field goal when Brett Lauter kicked in from 48 yards out to make it 25-7.

Montreal then quickly planned a response, with Alexander finding Tyler Snead for a 13-yard gain before he and Philpot combined for a 22-yard pass and catch.

A few plays later, running back Stevie Scott III scampered into the end zone from 11 yards out to cut the lead to 25-14 as the convert ended the third quarter.

After the Riders punted the ball on the next series, the Alouettes drove to the Saskatchewan nine-yard line, aided by a 15-yard passing penalty called by the CFL Replay Center, before kicking a 23-yard field goal to make the score 25-17.

Trying to respond, Harris hit Emilus down the sideline for a 31-yard gain, his 10th catch of the night, which also put him over 100 yards to bring Saskatchewan within striking distance.

The drive ended with Lauther missing a 39-yard field goal with 6:36 left.

Critical error cost Montreal a chance to draw

On Montreal's next drive, Alexander made a long throw to Sneed 51 yards to the Saskatchewan 24-yard line before Patterson fumbled after being hit by Campbell a few plays later as the Alouettes were trying to punt the ball into the end zone.

The loose ball was picked up by Sayles in the end zone as the Saskatchewan offense got the ball back with 2:58 left in the game for an eight-point lead.

On Ouellette's opening kickoff, Harris hit Meyers 20 yards, but Ouellette took an unnecessary roughing penalty 15 yards into the play that pushed the Riders back before Saskatchewan punted it away, giving Montreal 58 seconds to rally.

On the first play, Alexander ran for a three-yard gain before handing it off to Alexander Hollins, who was short of a first down. On third down, Alexander found Sneed first with 32 seconds remaining, giving Montreal hope from their 43-yard line.

After an incomplete match where he was pressured at the first fall, Alexander dropped Philpot for what would have been a big gain at the second fall.

With 16 seconds left, Alexander completed the first down to Scott, giving Montreal one last chance for a touchdown from midfield with six seconds remaining.

Alexander sent the ball into the end zone, but his pass fell incomplete as the Roughriders secured the win.
