Rogers Satellite works with apps like Google Maps and WhatsApp

Toronto-based national carrier Rogers has shared a list of apps that now work with Rogers Satellite.

These apps allow you to use them via satellite, but your experience may differ from using a cellular network. Rogers says applications designed for low-bandwidth environments are likely to offer the best results.

Rogers also says the list of applications is growing as developers continue to work on their applications via satellite.

The ability to use these apps via satellite means that even if you are offline, you will still be able to access these apps, which is great in case of an emergency.

Additionally, app availability may vary between iOS and Android.

Android apps include:

  • Accuweather
  • KalTopo
  • Google Maps
  • whatsapp
  • X

iOS apps include:

  • Accuweather
  • KalTopo
  • whatsapp
  • X

Rogers satellite testers receive this service free of charge until December. Rogers website notes that trial members who are not on the Rogers Ultimate plan will automatically be charged for the Rogers Satellite service after the beta ends. Rogers Satellite will cost $15 per month, but beta users will receive a $5 discount for the first 12 months.
