Rode has a better way to connect your tiny wireless mics to your camera

Last November, Rode launched its Wireless micromic system it was pairing two tiny lavalier microphones with a small receiver that plugged into your phone's charging port. Road later gave this product free updatesending another receiver that allowed the microphones connect to digital camerastoo much. Now the company is releasing an updated version of this receiver with an OLED screen, but this time it comes with a cost.

A new version of the Rode Wireless Camera Receiver is now available as part of a Wireless Micro Camera Kit, which includes two Wireless Micro lavalier microphones and an additional wireless receiver used to connect the microphones to mobile devices via USB-C or Lightning ports. The kit is priced at $149, which is what Rode's Wireless Micro system originally cost when it launched last November (without the camera receiver) before receiving price drop earlier this month to $99 when new color options were introduced. Rode wireless microphones still don't have the same functionality as DJI offerings like Little Mini or microphone 3but they are more competitive in price.

As with the original, the new receiver is designed to fit on cameras by connecting to their cold shoe mount, and audio from two wireless microphones is sent to the camera via a USB-C or 3.5mm audio cable. Battery life is rated at up to seven hours and is maximized by only turning on the receiver when connected to the camera. Receiver operating time can be extended up to 21 hours using the charging case included with the Wireless Micro Camera when you are away from a power source.

The 1.1-inch OLED screen displays information about battery life and signal strength of the receiver and wirelessly connected devices. It works alongside three buttons to navigate and adjust various settings, including gain levels, but for ease of use, the receiver can also automatically make these adjustments to suppress volume spikes and ensure that all audio coming into the camera is perfectly balanced.
