Roblox records “better than expected” Q3 results

Roblox reported “better-than-expected” revenue and bookings in the third quarter, with the results beating estimates for both revenue and profit.

Numbers

  • Income: $1.35 billion, up 48% from last year.
  • Reservations: $1.92 billion, which is 70% more than last year.
  • Net losses: $257 million compared to $240 million in the same quarter last year.

Highlights

Roblox also reported the following key metrics:

  • Average Daily Active Users (DAU): 151.5 million, which is 70% more than last year.
  • Opening hours: 39.6 billion, which is 91% more than a year earlier
  • Average Monthly Unique Payers (MUP): 35.8 million, which is 88% more than last year.

Roblox CEO and founder David Baszucki cited the strengths of its platform and creator ecosystem as key growth drivers, including “strategic investments in the creator economy, platform performance, discovery, and virtual economy.”

Among its DAUs, Roblox saw significant growth in users ages 13 and older, up 89% year over year.

The average number of orders on MUP increased across all regions during the quarter, and the top 1,000 creators on the platform earned an average of $1.1 million over the past 12 months.

Overall, creators made more than $1 billion on Roblox in nine months.

In terms of engagement, Roblox has seen further success with three games: Grow a Garden, Steal Brain Rot, and 99 Nights in the Woods.

Roblox noted that each experience “reached peak concurrent users that would exceed [its] the entire platform last year.”

A particularly notable achievement was Grow a Garden, which set the record for the most concurrent video game players with nearly 22 million.

The firm noted that the experience, combined with user growth and content diversity, has led to a significant increase in the number of hours spent by players.

The Asia Pacific (APAC) region saw the strongest growth, with the US and Canada seeing a 47% increase in hours played.

Engagement growth was highest among users over 13 years of age, with total hours increasing by 107% year over year, compared to a 67% increase for users under 13 years of age.

Looking ahead, Roblox has raised its fiscal year guidance. The company now expects revenue to be between $4.82 billion and $4.87 billion, with orders ranging from $6.56 billion to $6.61 billion.
