I was lucky enough to get an interview Robin Hood star Connie Nielsen twice already – once during press time about what was said MGM+ show, and another in her Scandinavian home a few months ago Gladiator II hit the big screen—and both times I walked away feeling deeply moved.
Nielsen is a natural at playing both sophisticated royalty and stories with direct, powerful moral messages. It's easy to see why she was chosen for Eleanor of Aquitaine in Robin Hood: Every time she opens her mouth, sage wisdom emerges.
When I asked Nielsen about this, she responded with the most brilliant line I've ever heard during an interview: “Celebrate your strength, for God's sake.”
Connie Nielsen from Robin Hood has more words of wisdom for you…so listen up
When I ask Nielsen if Eleanor is home Robin Hood it's a timely watch for young women, she says: “I definitely think so. But it is worth noting that women throughout history (and we are talking about thousands of years of history) … have consistently achieved power for themselves, and this happens again and again.”
“Women were sort of erased. Well, it's only because, you know, some history books have become depreciated, obsolete, undervalued, but they existed and they always existed. They and their stories actually exist, from famous mathematicians to astronomers, scientists, writers and queens.”
She continues: “When I was preparing to play the role of the Amazon Queen in Wonder Woman, I read this incredible book by a Stanford anthropologist called Amazons. She noted that female scientists had analyzed the DNA of all these fabulous warrior graves found throughout Eurasia and found that the most famous ones, including the “Golden Warrior”, were women. Others just made assumptions, and they were all men at the time.
“If they had a sword they had to be a man, and if they had a pot in their grave they had to be a woman. These assumptions were based on their own prejudices, which in turn created even more prejudices in our minds. in… celebrate your strength, for God’s sake.”
Doesn't that make you want to kick down the door? Add this to what Nielsen's Eleanor says in Robin Hood Episode 8 and there's literally nothing stopping us.
