Riot Games announces new roadmap for League of Legends

Riot Games has announced a major update to League of Legends after the 2026 season, including a new client, visuals and game modes.

This was stated by the franchise's executive producer Paul Bellezza. these updates will “change parts of League in meaningful ways,” including a fully integrated in-game client, new visuals, and gameplay changes.

There will also be pre-game updates to races and systems to improve the experience for new players, as well as new game modes, champion updates, and regular balance changes.

Bellezza continued to emphasize that Riot is not making a sequel to League of Legends and that more details will be revealed next year.

According to Bloombergthe updated game is internally titled “League Next” and is scheduled for release in 2027.

Sources also told the publication that “employee reorganization has also been announced.” GamesIndustry.biz asked Riot for further clarification on this matter.

Last year, Riot cut 11% of its workforce, resulting in 530 layoffs. This also included the closure of Riot Forge's publishing label.
