Reports: Colts QB Philip Rivers to start against Seahawks

It's Phillip Rivers time again under center for the Indianapolis Colts.

The 44-year-old defensive end, who came out of retirement Wednesday to join the practice squad, will be activated to the active roster and start Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. for several reports on Saturday.

Indianapolis turned to the now-retired QB after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending injury last Sunday. Riley Leonard, who replaced Jones, suffered a knee injury.

Leonard is active against the Seahawks and will be the backup.

Rivers has not appeared in the NFL since retiring in a postseason loss to the Colts in 2020. That was the last time Indy (8-5) made the postseason. The eight-time Pro Bowler announced his retirement in January 2021 and has since coached at St. Michael's High School in Fairhope, Alabama.

Rivers also returns to a team desperate to bounce back from its worst stretch of the season – four losses in five games. Result: Indy is out of the race for first place in the AFC and is tied for second in the AFC South with Houston (8-5), one game behind division leader Jacksonville (9-4).
