Raskin says Democratic Party would welcome MTG, drawing boos from the crowd

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., said Democratic Party would welcome fellow Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., after the conservative congresswoman became increasingly critical of her party in recent weeks, a comment that drew cheers from the crowd.

Raskin made the comments while speaking at the Democratic Party's 2025 Blue Bash Brunch fundraiser in Miami on Sunday, where he said his party has a big tent that welcomes all “patriots” who will stand up for the Constitution.

“Let me tell you a couple more things, great Florida Democrats,” Raskin said. “One of them: we are a big tent. We have to be a huge, huge tent.”

“I'm saying there's a place for Marjorie Taylor Greene at this party if she wants to come,” Raskin said, drawing mixed reactions from the crowd. “We have a place for everyone who wants to stand up for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights today.”

Greene's feud with Trump led the president to withdraw his support for the Georgia Republican and call her a traitor. Greene denies the accusation, saying she was targeted last week to “set an example to scare every other Republican before voting next week to release the Epstein files.”

“I remain the same today as I have always been and will continue to pray that this administration succeeds because the American people desperately deserve what they voted for,” Greene responded to X.

Raskin called on Democrats to be prepared to expand the party to include diverse ideological views. He called himself a “liberal” and a “progressive” because of his support for freedom and progress.

“But today, what I like best is to call myself a conservative because I want to preserve the earth, the air, the water, the climate system, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, the National Labor Relations Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Voting Rights Act, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act,” he said.

“Everything that the authoritarian party wants to destroy is everything that we are going to preserve and protect in America,” the congressman continued. “We are a party of conservatives, liberals and progressives. All patriots today belong to the democracy party. This is who we are.”
