“When your health starts to take a toll with your cold, you say to yourself: I don't want to die. I've never had to deal with health problems like this. First of all, I find it very boring and very frustrating. It shouldn't be worse because it really wouldn't be viable,” he told QMI on Tuesday during a visit to the set when all the trainers had just finished working their teams and took part in photographing.
Mario Pelchat says he's determined to take care of himself after 45 years of driving full speed without ever stopping.
“That's what I'm planning to do next year – take a vacation. I don't know how long, actually, but I'm going to take a vacation. I won't have a choice,” he said, adding in the same breath that he'll still have to take care of his vineyard starting in the spring.
He says he was juggling the idea of giving his red chair to another coach.
“I was hesitant to come back because of anxiety and breathing problems. I need all my clothes just to talk to you now. So I wasn't sure if I would come back, but I'm happy, I made the right decision because I'm returning to a profession that has always excited me. The Vineyard is a separate project, but I don't want to lose my life there, and let it be at the expense of what I was born to do: music.”
Therefore, Mario Pelchat realizes that he must take care of himself.
“I've always been a machine, everyone told me that, but ultimately I'm not that much of a machine. I didn't think this would happen to me. In fact, I knew very well that one day the decline would come, we're getting old, but what I'm experiencing there is not related to aging. It's related to a stressful situation, with the Agricultural Land Conservation Commission.” [CPTAQ] and the grief I feel,” he said, adding that his partner Claire is also “exhausted.”
“All this pressure we've been under means we need to step back a bit and think. VoiceI don't need to sing much, I'm here to enjoy the talent of others, I don't notice talent, so I really appreciate it.
A hearing is scheduled for Thursday at the Quebec Administrative Tribunal as the singer challenged a CPTAQ ruling regarding concerts at his vineyard.
And on Tuesday, it should be noted that in addition to anxiety and breathing problems, Mario Pelchat recovered from a sleepless night associated with digestive problems, which he can teach the members of his new team Voice that, no matter the circumstances, you should always be ready to deliver, even when you are sick.
“I myself have gone through moments of stress and it has happened to me that sometimes I don't sleep well and am less inclined to sing. Candidates want to give their best and sometimes things don't work out the way they wanted. I have faced this often, so I understand them,” the coach said, highlighting his pride in his new team.
We remember that Mario Pelchat was awarded the winning coach award in his first year in Voicein 2023, thanks to the triumph of Sophie Grenier. The following season, France D'Amours took the top honor after her protégé Maud Cyr-Dechaine was declared the big winner.
“I was competitive the first year, I wanted to win. I'm going to work hard to give everyone a chance to make it to the finals. I'm going to give them the best tools, find the best songs to highlight them, but after three seasons I've found that we all benefit from being there. As do they, so do we. To be part of the adventure is incredible with all the candidates that are there. We see them grow, we We see how they gain confidence, it's all wonderful. The work we do with them is bearing fruit and we are witnessing it. this,” said Mario Pelchat, who, by his own admission, has been less emotional on set so far.
