Public Mobile has increased the availability of data on some of its plans to more closely align with Freedom Mobile's Boxing Week offerings. Plus, Public has special offers for existing customers… if you're lucky.
Last week Freedom refuses contracts for Boxing Week with plans like 39/70GB and 49/100GB with 5G+ data and Canada/US/Mexico roaming. Public was nearly in line with Freedom's previous plans (give or take $1), so it's no surprise that the Telus-owned wireless carrier has moved to match Freedom's newest offerings.
Here are Public's plans:
- $50/100GB 5G Canada/US/Mexico (previously $50/80GB or $60/100GB).
- $40/70GB 5G Canada/US/Mexico (previously $40/60GB).
- $35/10GB 5G Canada/US/Mexico (unchanged).
- $30/8GB 5G Canada-wide (unchanged).
- $25/4GB Canada wide (no change).
- $20 per GB across Canada (no change).
Public doesn't provide an end date for its deals and simply notes that they're “holiday exclusive.”[s]” Operators usually offer Boxing Week deals in early January, so there's no need to sign up right away. (Plus, there's always a chance the deals will get better if you wait!)
Along with the above plans, Public is offering special offers to some existing customers. Some have reported that Public is offering 5G to existing customers in Canada/US/Mexico for 30/30GB. You can check this by logging into your public account and clicking the change subscription button – I had it at the bottom of the list of plans. However, your mileage may vary.
If you have such a plan, it's a pretty solid proposition in my opinion. The $30 Public plan only includes 8GB of data and is limited to Canada, so getting 30GB and Canada/US/Mexico roaming for the same price isn't bad.
