PS5 reigns supreme over Black Friday, accounting for a staggering 62% of all console sales

There were no new entrants to the European top 20 last week, but sales were nonetheless up during Black Friday week, thanks in large part to Sony, which was seemingly Black Friday's MVP, taking in 62 percent of all console sales in the UK for the week.

Data provided by NielsenIQ and GSD and published Gaming business – showed that console sales were much stronger this holiday period, with revenue up 14 percent and unit game sales up 7 percent.

And bye Nintendo Switch 2 took up a significant portion of all equipment sales (23 percent), it was PS5 Pro it was the best week since launch. The Xbox Series S and X accounted for just 10 percent of all console sales, possibly because the Xbox console was discounted by about 8 percent off the typical price, while the PS5 Slim console saw its price drop by 21 to 34 percent, depending on the model.

However, sales of accessories fell 17 percent compared to the same period last year, as did sales of joysticks and headsets, which fell 27 and 28 percent, respectively.

And while the Meta Quest 3 and PS5 VR headsets had their best weeks of the year, VR headset sales overall were also down about 7 percent.

Yesterday we reported that former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida suggested that Japanese studios 'cannot replicate' the speed at which games are produced in Chinasuggesting that Chinese studios may hire more people “who can work overtime.”

“When I spoke with miHoYo, we discussed that it would be quite difficult for Japanese developers to create games in the same way as miHoYo does. Not to mention the legal problems that may arise from this,” Yoshida said.
