Sometimes it can be difficult when you also have a son on your high school coach’s team, but there are those unforgettable moments that make every second spent together magical. That's the moment that happened Friday night for Oak Park basketball coach Aaron Shaw and his son, sophomore guard Grant Shaw.
Grant hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key as the buzzer sounded to give host Oak Park a 54-51 win over rival Agoura.
Then, for some reason unknown at the time, Grant ran in the opposite direction, followed by his teammates and the frantic Oak Park fans. There were so many people celebrating that he ended up being pushed into the gym lobby.
His father watched from the bench, not understanding why his son left the gym. “The coaches were asking, 'Where is he going?'” he said.
It turns out that the influx of people celebrating forced Grant to enter the foyer. Later, his father reminded him that maybe next time he would stay in the gym.
But make no mistake: Aaron has won two Southern Section titles as a coach, and this one ranks among the best.
“A proud father moment,” he said.
