Tottenham and Manchester United scored in stoppage time in a wild 2-2 finish to the Premier League on Saturday.
Just when Richarlison's glancing header in the first minute of added time seemed to seal Tottenham's victory, United equalized with a Matthijs de Ligt header five minutes later.
United extended their unbeaten league run to five games (three wins and two away draws) – the best result of Ruben Amorim's one-year tenure, who is clearly benefiting from more time to prepare for games due to the lack of European involvement this season.
Tottenham have won just one of their six home games so far but showed commendable resilience by conceding a 32nd-minute goal to Brian Mbeumo – his fifth of the campaign.
The hosts dominated the second half and leveled in the 84th thanks to substitute Mathis Tela's shot deflected by De Ligt. Tel was on the pitch for just five minutes, replacing Xavi Simons in a substitute that was mocked by some fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
When Richarlison looked at Wilson Odobert's strike from the edge of the box, Tottenham looked big favorites for all three points, especially as United were down to 10 players at the time due to the injury of substitute Benjamin Sesco. United used all five substitutions and were unable to replace a striker.
There was still time for De Ligt to find space at the back post for a corner and header towards goal and over the line before Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario snatched the ball.
Tel concluded by saying that he felt it was “50/50”.
“In the second half our reaction was good, we changed the game,” the French striker said. “But we’re also angry because we should have won today.”
Arsenal later take a six-point lead at Sunderland, with Chelsea hosting Wolves in one of the other three games.
