The top five games played by US players on PlayStation in 2025 were exactly the same as those played in 2024, according to Circana's Player Engagement Tracker.
This information posted on social media by Circana Senior Director Mat Piscatellastates that Fortnite took first place in 2025, followed by Call of Duty. Grand Theft Auto V, Robloxthen Minecraft. This is interesting because this list is an exact replica of the top five games played on PlayStation in the US in 2024.
When you look at the top five games played on Xbox in the US in 2025, the order of the games in the top five spots is slightly different, but the games themselves remain the same. In 2025, Fortnite took the top spot, followed by Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft and Roblox. While in 2024, Call of Duty was number one, followed by Fortnite, Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V, and then Roblox in fifth place.
It's safe to say that judging by these statistics, the top echelon of popular games is somewhat cemented right now. Since the biggest live games generate absurd revenue and player engagement rates, breaking into space and surviving is not an easy task not to mention prosperity. A year after launch, Fortnite has earned more than $5 billion. and has shown little sign of slowing down since.
This should give some context as to why developers continue to try to make it big in the live services space, as if they can catch the potential profits being staggering. Arc Raiders may be an example of things going well.while examples of games of this type that have not gained popularity are much more numerous. Just look at Warhavenwhich closed just four months after its early access release.
Will the list of the top five players in 2026 be different? Even with Call of Duty Having encountered a slight problem with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7And Arc Raiders performing exceptionally well, it is likely that the top five themselves will remain very similar. If Grand Theft Auto VI has not been postponed to November maybe we'd see the torch pass to a sequel, but oh well.
