Planet Giza Cement Their Legacy with ‘The Sky Is Recording Me: 100 Years, Vol. 3’

Hip-hop trio from Montreal Planet Giza first caught my attention (and the rest of the internet) in 2021 with their Don't throw stones at the moon EP, and more specifically, their breakthrough track “LIMB”, which is an incomparable harmony that has since attracted them to hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners.

Now the team of rapper Tony Stone and producers Rami B and DoomX have released their highly anticipated new EP. Heaven Records Me: 100 Years Later, Vol. 3. The 22-second atmospheric intro “TIME” reveals the inspiration for the album's title: “This project took a while to make, feels like it'll last forever / A hundred years later and the sky is recording me.”

The hip-hop group seamlessly incorporates jazz influences into a gentle collection with soulful songs like “THE FALL,” combining polyrhythms with smooth vocals and laid-back lyrics. The breezy “MINDING MY BUSINESS” featuring multi-instrumentalist and producer Elijah Fox is a standout that will make you wish you had a convertible to cruise around in while the song mingles with the wind in your hair.

Despite the effortless ease with which they move, on this EP Planet Giza remain firmly grounded in their heritage. While the future remains unknown, one thing seems certain: in 100 years, Planet Giza will be remembered for their contributions to the Canadian hip-hop scene.
