Philip Rivers calling it quits again

Philip Rivers announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday after retiring from coaching high school football to play for the Indianapolis Colts.

Rivers appeared on “Up and Adams” until the end of the year and said that this time he is truly done and is going to focus his attention on the team he is coaching.

“I’m done,” Rivers said. “I have a son who will be the eldest, and I realized that St. Michael's Football Team ready to go. We've been beaten in the semifinals two years in a row,” Rivers said. – So, this will be his senior year. My second son will be a ninth grader. Together they will be on the same team.

“So it will be fun to come home with the guys. The school was very excited. Many of them came to the game last week.

Rivers said he knows he retired in 2020 and will return this season to replace Daniel Joneswho tore his Achilles was just perfect timing.

He said if any other team had called, he wouldn't have had a chance to do what he did.

“Everything just lined up,” he said. “It was where I was, the team I knew, the offense was exactly the same. The coach I knew. All of that made it kind of the perfect storm.”

“I'm on the sidelines again. It was a fun three-week diversion that no one saw coming, including myself, and that was that.”

The Colts will go with Riley Leonard for the final game of the season.

Rivers, 44, was a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame before deciding to turn back the clock on retirement and join the Colts. Indianapolis couldn't get a win with Rivers under center.

In those three starts, he had 544 passing yards, four touchdown passes and three interceptions.

Rivers will walk away with 63,984 passing yards, 425 passing touchdowns and one incredible story to tell.
