Mickelson responded on X to comments made by Rep. Kevin Kiely, R-Calif., during an interview with Fox Business and later an interview with CNN, condemning a recently proposed tax on billionaires in California while alleged fraud is taking place.

“No amount of taxes will help CA until the fraud problem is solved. CA scam makes MN look like amateurs,” Mickelson wrote.

“Instead of stopping the fraud and theft and getting the money back, the plan is to more taxes for the citizens of the country who are already subject to the highest taxes.”

In response to a local column about a proposed tax on billionaires, Mickelson later wrote: “How about no new taxes until the government gets rid of the fraud. Until that happens, increasing taxes will only fund more fraud.”

In another post, Mickelson suggested that stopping gerrymandering would cost Democrats votes.

“The dilemma for all Democrats is that if you stop the gerrymandering, illegal immigration and voter fraud in California, then the Republicans will win California and have a huge majority nationwide. The Democratic Party will almost disappear,” he wrote.

Trump brought further attention to the alleged fraud in California in a Truth Social post on Wednesday, again claiming the situation was worse than in Minnesota. citing California Governor Gavin Newsom and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who is at the center of his state's recent cheating scandal.

“There is more FRAUD in California than in Minnesota, if that is even possible. Election fraudthen they will be the first. Two dishonest governors, two dishonest states!” – Trump wrote.

Newsom's office responded with a statement to X.

“Donald Trump is a deranged, habitual liar whose relationship with reality ended many years ago. [Fox News] humbly treats it as the Holy Scripture of the Lord,” the statement said.

“Meanwhile – in the real world, where adults rule – [Gov.] Gavin Newsom was cleaning house. Since taking office, he has stopped more than $125 billion in fraud, arrested criminal parasites sucking taxpayers out of money, and protected taxpayers from the very type of scammers Trump glorifies, condones, and forgives. Gavin Newsom runs the state. Donald Trump moves his mouth and little fingers.”

On Tuesday, the US Department of Health and Human Services said it would freeze all child care payments to Minnesota amid growing scrutiny over allegations of fraud involving day care centers across Minnesota.
