Pentagon’s new press corps is the stuff of nightmares

Trump administration announced On Wednesday, a group of far-right media outlets gained press access at the Pentagon.

The announcement came a week after valid journalists went on strike And refused to subscribe to new rules that require all reporting to be pre-approved by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Even Fox News opposed new rules.

“New media and independent journalists have created a formula to circumvent the lies of the mainstream media and bring real news directly to the American people,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said. wrote on X. “Their reach and influence collectively are far more effective and balanced than that of a complacent media outlet that has decided to self-deport from the Pentagon.”

The Pentagon's new channels include Timcast. conspiracy racist Tim Poole's podcast in which he stated that “multiculturalism” behind mass shootings and that women must face public shaming for how many sexual partners they had.

Poole was given access to the Pentagon even though—or perhaps because—he was part of a group of right-wing influencers paid by the Russian government to spread disinformation. He payments received from Russia's Tenet Media to create politically divisive videos to weaken the US government and its opposition to Russia.

Russia probably had no idea that when Donald Trump became president, one of its paid puppets will be given a front row seat to the inner workings of the US military.

Likewise, MyPillow founder and election conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell's publication, LindellTV, will now spew Hegseth's nonsense to the public. Lindell was among the Trump sycophants who falsely claimed that Trump won the 2020 election.

Gateway Pundit, a conservative blog founded and run by Jim Hoeft, also received Pentagon credentials. Hoft, once described Dubbed “the dumbest man on the Internet,” the media watchdog group Media Matters for America has spent decades promoting debunked right-wing conspiracy theories and other lies.

Most recently Gateway Pundit paid compensation in a 2024 defamation lawsuit filed by two Georgia election officials after falsely accusing them of rigging the 2020 election.

The Pentagon reports are of great importance at the moment.

Trump administration busy in the war in South America, which some experts say is illegal. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin ignored Trump's half-hearted attempt to end Russia's war with Ukraine, which most recently included That kindergarten explosion in the presence of children. And in the Middle East, the conflict between Israel and Hamas continued despite Trump claims that he had achieved a “peace agreement.”

The Pentagon's new right-wing press corps is completely ill-equipped to handle independent reporting. But when it comes to crafting stories that will get Hegseth's approval, it will pass with flying colors.
