PayPal and Venmo are down – here’s everything we know about the payment platforms outage

Update

And PayPal says it's back to “Working” across the board, which is good news – although I wish they'd updated to reflect the outage a little sooner.

Perhaps more importantly, the number of reports on Down Detector has dropped sharply for both PayPal and Venmo. We're currently seeing fewer than 1,000 reports of problems with PayPal, while Venmo has a slightly higher rate of 1,078 reports.

Many in the comments have noted that things are returning to normal, and I, for one, can once again access my PayPal dashboard and see my Venmo feed, even though my most recent transactions were made over an hour ago.

PayPal admits the problem

Well, it's better than never too late, and even with some signs of recovery with the help of the Down Detector, official PayPal status page now updated to reflect “service outages” for “Home”, “Account” and “Venmo”.

Even though it's been more than an hour since the problems with PayPal were reported, the payment platform's official status page shows that everything is working. Although for many affected users this is simply not the case, with many reporting they are unable to log in.

Here's a live look at Down Detector for PayPal – it's still approaching 10,000 and currently stands at 9,452 as of 12:11 pm ET. Affected users are still leaving comments, with some noting that they can't even log into the platform or load the main dashboard.
