This was supposed to be the day New England Patriots was thinking solely about beating the Buffalo Bills and winning the AFC East division, but tragedy has crept into the picture and the franchise isn't going to ignore what's going on in the rest of the world.

A Patriots spokesperson told OutKick that the club will hold a moment of silence before kickoff against the Buffalo Bills in recognition of the “horrific events” at Brown University on Saturday and in Bondi Beach, Australia, on Sunday.

Brown University in Rhode Island is less than 30 miles from where the Patriots practice and play in Foxboro, Massachusetts. It was the scene of a mass shooting in which several people were killed and several people were injured in a mass shooting in a classroom.

The Bills, who will face the Patriots in today's game at 1:00 p.m., were actually in Providence, Rhode Island when the mass shooting occurred.

No one from the Buffalo group was injured, and as a precaution, the team did not allow everyone in the traveling group to stay at the team hotel.

Patriots will also pay tribute to Sunday's mass shooting at the Hanukkah festival in Bondi Beach in Australia.

Australian authorities are calling the attack “terrorism” targeting Jews, including women and children. At least 12 people were killed and at least 28 people were hospitalized when two gunmen opened fire on the crowd from an elevated area.

The shooting is the worst attack on Jews since the Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023.

And it's felt throughout the Patriots community, as club owner Robert Kraft publicly supports Jewish causes.

Kraft founded Blue Square Alliance Against Hate, which tracks, among other things, the steady rise of anti-Semitism in the United States and around the world.
