Former NBA player Patrick Beverly was arrested after his teenage sister accused him of tightly grabbing her neck and punching her in the eye during an incident early Friday morning at their mother's home in Fort Bend County, Texas.

Beverly, 37, is charged with third-degree felony assault on a family member/householder and obstruction of breathing and faces a prison sentence of two to 10 years and/or a fine of up to $10,000. Bail was set at $40,000, which TMZ reports this. was published on the same day.

On Friday, Beverly wrote on X“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet.”

Later that day, the former Lakers and Clippers player released a statement from his lawyer, Leticia Quinones-Hollins: by X regarding the alleged incident.

Patrick Beverly has no criminal record, the statement said. – He cares deeply about his younger sister – a young girl, underage. Considering that when he unexpectedly found her alone in a house with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be concerned about his sister.

“However, we do not believe that what followed occurred as described, and we look forward to resolving this issue in court.”

Beverly pointed in a separate post the next day his sister “just turned 15.”

“So yes, but please keep the family in your prayers,” he wrote.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed Friday, Fort Bend County Sheriff's Deputy Miguel Ramirez was dispatched to the home around 3:50 a.m. in response to a possible domestic violence situation. Ramirez spoke with Beverly's sister, who said she went to see her boyfriend Thursday night without permission from her mother, Lisa Beverly.

After Beverly's sister returned home, she told Ramirez, her mother asked her to tell her boyfriend to come over. Once he was there, Lisa Beverly invited her son to come to her home, the affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, Beverly's sister said that after Beverly arrived, he “began telling her what was wrong with her regarding her leaving the house without permission” and then “grabbed her neck with both hands and lifted her off the ground, forcing her feet off the floor.”

The affidavit states that Beverly's sister said her brother “squeezed her neck, causing her to feel pain” and she felt “she was losing oxygen and couldn't breathe” for about 20 to 30 seconds. Beverly's sister also said he slammed her body against a wall and punched her in the left eye, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit notes that Ramirez saw “marks” on the alleged victim’s neck and petechiae — tiny spots — “in the white portion of her eyes.”

The alleged victim told Ramirez that “Patrick Beverly made a statement to her during the attack that he would be a family member who would kill her,” the affidavit states.

Beverly left the house to follow her boyfriend, according to the affidavit. He returned and told his mother and sister that the guy had called the authorities.

“I have taken Patrick Beverly into custody and transported him to the Fort Bend County Jail to prevent further domestic violence,” Ramirez wrote.

A court appearance is scheduled for December 15.

Quinones-Hollins further addressed the allegations against her client in a statement emailed to The Times on Tuesday afternoon.

“I understand that the affidavit contains some negative details, but remember that this is only one side of the story – given at a time when emotions were high,” the lawyer wrote. “As I have stated previously, we do not believe the description in this affidavit is accurate or incomplete. Patrick is not a violent person and did not engage in violence that night. In fact, he was very respectful of authorities that night and encouraged others to do the same.”

“He is the provider and protector of his family, including his little sister and his mother. He has always cared about their well-being and will continue to do so. I fully expect that when all the facts are established, Patrick will be cleared of these charges. In the meantime, I can only ask everyone to keep an open mind and not rush to judgment.”
