Packers-Steelers brawl ends with referees being knocked to ground

WITH Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers faces his former team, the Green Bay Packers, as both teams looked for their fifth win of the season to come at Acresure Stadium on Sunday night.

A massive scrum on the pitch in the second half resulted in several officials being hit as they tried to turn the tide.

Packers held a 22-19 lead in the fourth quarter when Steelers linebacker Nick Niemann was flagged for inciting an altercation. When the penalty flag hit the turf, a large brawl ensued involving players from both teams.

Several players got involved and the referees tried to calm the situation when two of them were knocked down as the brawl continued.

It all started when Pittsburgh's Ben Skowronek was double-teamed by two Packers players during the kickoff. Nick Herbig came to defend Skowronek and tackled Bo Melton to the ground.

The game stopped for a while as the officials sorted out the fight, and it was Steelers linebacker Nick Herbig who was ultimately called an unnecessary roughing penalty, giving the Packers a 15-yard gain.

However, from that point on, tension continued for both teams until the final whistle resulted in the Packers winning 35–25 in a game in which Rodgers was attempting to become the fifth quarterback in NFL history to beat all 32 teams in his career.

For the first time since being traded to the New York Jets, Rodgers faced the Packers, the team he won with. Super Bowl with four MVP awards. But his former student Jordan Love turned out to be the best back in the game, throwing for three touchdowns and 360 yards on the road Sunday night.

Two of those touchdowns went to tight end Tucker Craft, who had a team-best seven catches for 143 yards in prime time.

However, there were times when Rodgers looked great for the Steelers, including throwing touchdown passes. DK Metcalfe and Roman Wilson. But several Pittsburgh attempts stalled, leading to multiple field goal attempts by Chris Boswell that kept the Steelers in the game.

The Packers put pressure on Rodgers all night as Micah Parsons and Rashan Gary couldn't stop getting on the field.

Green Bay moved to 5-1-1 on the season, while the Steelers fell for the second week in a row to move to 4-3.
