The first Gamescom Asia x Thailand game show attracted 206,159 people from 95 countries over four days.
The event, held from October 16 to 19 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, broke attendance records for Gamescom Asia and the Thai Game Show.
the two events merged earlier this year to “strengthen Thailand's position as a leading gaming hub in the Asian region,” event organizers said.
The Gamescom Asia x TGS business event featured 5,590 industry professionals from 81 countries and 71 speakers across four stages.
This year's event featured 294 exhibitors and country pavilions from developers such as Bandai Namco, Capcom, HoYoverse, Konami, Sega, Ubisoft, Tencent, The Pokémon Company and Xbox.
This year, the indie zone featured 62 games, as well as more than 200 gaming titles in the business and entertainment sectors.
At the Thai Game Awards, Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won four awards, while Lost and Found Co. from Bit Egg Inc. received the Thai Game Award.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to veteran game designer Glen Schofield, known for his work on Dead Space, Call of Duty and The Callisto Protocol.
“This is a partnership [between Gamescom Asia and TGS] celebrates creativity, innovation and community on a global scale,” event organizers said.
“Under the theme 'World of Games', we aim to bring Southeast Asia's games and talent to the international stage while delivering world-class experiences to local audiences, positioning Thailand as a true global gaming hub.”
Thailand's Commerce Minister Suphaji Suthumpun added: “I have been deeply impressed that both Thai and international game developers are using the beauty of Thailand as the backdrop and characters in their games.”
“This is true soft power, allowing players around the world to experience Thai identity through the world of gaming. “Throughout the Gamescom Asia x Thailand game show, business negotiations were conducted that generated economic value of over 1.22 billion baht (USD 37.2 million), a figure that reflects Thailand's enormous potential on the global stage.”
Gamescom Asia x TGS is set to return next year from October 29th to November 1st.
