- ChatGPT Atlas is a new browser from OpenAI that integrates ChatGPT directly into the browsing experience.
- It remembers your browsing context, allows you to ask questions, automate tasks, and even clear tabs.
- Agent mode allows Atlas to perform actions on your behalf in the browser. It is now available for Plus, Pro and Business users.
OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Atlas, a new AI-powered web browser launching today for macOS users worldwide. Versions for Windows, iOS and Android are already in development, release date is “soon”.
ChatGPT Atlas brings the capabilities of ChatGPT directly into the browser itself. Instead of switching tabs to talk to chatbotan assistant is built into the browsing process. When you use Atlas, you'll see both the web page and the ChatGPT transcript, which makes the AI companion always visible (unless you turn it off). It can even correct your email using what OpenAI calls cursor chat.
AI can help summarize pages, fill out forms, make advance orders, and perform other tasks automatically. The new browser represents OpenAI's biggest move into everyday software and offers a memory feature that allows you to personalize your experience and make it more useful on an individual level as it can remember your preferences.
Atlas will likely not seem unfamiliar to most web browsers. But under the hood, it appears to be running OpenAI's Operator Agent, an existing artificial intelligence engine capable of navigating pages, taking actions, and adapting in real time.
For ordinary users, the appeal is obvious. Forget about manipulating extensions, copying URLs into a chatbot, or manually entering the same shipping address for the fiftieth time. If Atlas works as promised, web browsing could become not only smarter, but also less expensive to maintain.
