- On Sunday, November 30th, ChatGPT turns three years old.
- Uploading an image to ChatGPT is more popular than AI creating an image.
- The most commonly used ChatGPT task at work is editing and critiquing text.
ChatGPT It turns three on Sunday, November 30th, and to celebrate, OpenAI decided to share some statistics about how people use the world's favorite artificial intelligence tool.
ChatGPT launched as a fairly unknown “research preview” back in 2022, and today it's the most popular chatbot on the planet, responding to approximately 29,000 messages per second.
According to OpenAI, 800 million people a week use it for everything from planning their next trip to choosing the ripest produce in the garden. grocery store.
How we use ChatGPT
But how do we use ChatGPT? According to OpenAI, three-quarters of conversations focus on how-to leadership, information seeking, and writing.
For work, the main use case is writing, with most requests asking ChatGPT to change the text. In particular, this means editing, criticizing and translating rather than creating a new text from scratch.
When it comes to the six main ways ChatGPT is being used around the world, OpenAI lists them as follows:
- Uploading an image
- Internet search
- Using a Reasoning Model
- Creating an Image
- Data Analysis
- Dictation
Interestingly, “Uploading an Image” ranks higher than “Creating an Image.” As with the use of text at work, people seem to be uploading their own images and asking ChatGPT to improve them, rather than creating entirely new content using AI.
UK use
If we talk specifically about Great Britain, the picture changes somewhat. OpenAI lists the most popular use cases in the UK:
- Writing, composing or editing messages
- Practical guidance and practical tips (eg cooking, DIY)
- Looking for information
- Health, fitness and beauty tips
- Learning, tutoring and teaching
- Coaching and support to achieve personal goals
- Shopping and product search
- Brainstorming, creativity and image generation
- Coding
- Analysis and calculations
These results show that people in the UK rely heavily on ChatGPT to complete practical tasks, rather than simply viewing it as a novelty. Although business applications such as coding and analysis are at the bottom of the top 10, they are much less important than general productivity and life administration tasks.
The British clearly view ChatGPT as a simple self-improvement tool that bridges the gap between Googling and hiring an expert.
As someone who has watched ChatGPT grow from its humble origins in 2022 to a behemoth with 800 million weekly active users just three years later, I think we can safely say that we are now living in an era where ChatGPT has become ubiquitous.
This has become another utility – something we turn to without thinking when we need help or advice.
Shopping is currently at the bottom of the list, but that could quickly change, especially now that OpenAI has launched its own shopping research tool. If I were Amazon or GoogleI would pay attention.
AI bubble may or may not explode, but it's safe to say that tools like ChatGPT have already become a part of our daily lives. What's next for artificial intelligence – be it heavy duty AGI or not, the practical and simple AI assistants that people already rely on are here to stay.
