Ontario Premier Doug Ford has spoken out against the exorbitant prices of third-party tickets for Blue Jays World Series games.
Speaking to reporters at Queen's Park on Wednesday, Ford criticized the retailers for “squeezing out” fans. “I just don't believe in one company controlling everything, and that's what I think is happening with Ticketmaster right now,” he said, adding that legislation is now being “considered” against all of this.
Ford is referring to the fact that World Series tickets quickly sold out through Ticketmaster on Tuesday morning. since being offered for sale by resellers for $16,000. It is clear that then this would be useful for someone do something about this for Jay's fans.
It should be noted that Ford himself repealed the law in 2019 it limited the resale of tickets to 50 percent above their original face value. At the time, the Ford government said such a law was “unenforceable” and would take resale “out of safe channels” and into the black market. So it's unclear what exactly the Ford government will do six years later to enforce such a law.
Demand for World Series tickets is particularly high in Toronto as the Jays reach the World Series for the first time since 1993. the team's 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Monday. In the World Series The Jays will play at least four games against the Los Angeles Dodgers.starting with Friday's home game.
