OnePlus unveils OxygenOS 16 update with deep Gemini integration

Updated Android software extends Mind Space's capabilities and leverages Gemini. To get started, you can add scrolling screenshots and voice notes up to 60 seconds long. This provides the AI with more data to create content. For example, if you take screenshots of hotel listings and airline flights, you can tell Gemini to use your Mind Space content to create a travel itinerary. It will be fully integrated with the phone and will not require a separate subscription to Google's AI tools.

Mind Space isn't a completely new idea, it's very similar to AI features like Nothing is important space as well as pixelated screenshots and Google log. The idea is that if you give the AI model enough data about your thoughts and plans, it can provide useful information. This is still hypothetical based on what we've seen from other smartphone makers, but that doesn't stop OnePlus from fully implementing AI into Android 16.

Besides the expansion of Mind Space, OxygenOS 16 will also add system-wide AI writing tools, which is another common AI addition. Like Apple, Google, and Samsung's systems, you'll be able to use OnePlus's writing tools for text editing, proofreading, and resume creation.

OnePlus will make OxygenOS 16 available starting October 17th as an open beta. To run the software, you'll need a OnePlus device released in the last three years, both in beta and after its final release. Regarding this, OnePlus has not announced a specific date. The initial release of OxygenOS 16 will be available for OnePlus 15 devices, with releases for other supported phones and tablets coming later.
