One person was killed and three firefighters were injured in a building fire Saturday night. Roosevelt Island.
Firefighters responded to a residential fire at around 6:04 p.m. Main Street and River Road. where one person was pronounced dead, the FDNY said.
“Our county is once again mourning the loss of one of our neighbors in a fire, this time at 560 Main St. on Roosevelt Island. My thoughts are with their family tonight, as well as those who were hospitalized,” said Councilwoman Julie Menin. X.
EMS transported the three smoke eaters to local hospitals where they were treated for moderate injuries.
The fire was brought under control around 7:39 p.m. Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire.
The fatal fire occurred after An 86-year-old woman died in a fire in her sixth-floor apartment in Queens. Saturday morning just after 2:15 a.m. on 12th Street near 41st Avenue in the NYCHA Queensbridge South Houses complex.
An ambulance transported the woman to Mount Sinai Queens Hospital, where she died a short time later. Her name was not immediately released.
The death on Roosevelt Island was the fifth fire death in New York City in the past week.
