Epic Games is running one hell of a campaign right now. Every day a mysterious game is revealed to the world and given away for free in true Christmas fashion. Some were fireworks, others not so much. But today, for Christmas, one of the best cRPGs was released for free.
And the game in question is Disco Elysiumincredible game from ZA/UM. The story takes place in a fictional, politically devastated landscape. Disco Elysium puts you in the shoes of a nameless detective wandering the streets trying to solve a strange case with his more insightful and focused partner.
The detective is a reflection of your (perceived or actual) complex political reality and can take on any role you want him to, with each action having serious consequences, thereby changing the outcome of each playthrough.
The game is as beautiful and stylish as it is well-written, and is a master class in video game storytelling in almost every sense.
So unless you have a strong hatred for Epic Games and don't mind interacting with the platform in any capacity, you'll be better off if you pick up the game. It will be free through December 25th before being replaced by another mystery game.
This promotion from Epic will run through the last few days of 2025 and end on December 31st. Of course, there's also a holiday sale that runs through 2026, ending in early January.
