To the surprise of absolutely no one, One Battle After Another became the film with the most nominations at the Golden Globes… with Ryan Coogler's The Sinners coming in third in line.
One Battle After Another, based on Thomas Pynchon's novel Vineland, received a whopping nine Golden Globe nominations, making it the most nominated film of the year. Nominations include Best Picture (Comedy), Best Director, Best Actor (Comedy) for DiCaprio, Best Actress (Comedy) for Infinity (which makes me the happiest movie fan alive), Best Supporting Actor (Comedy) for Benicio del Toro and Penn, Best Supporting Actress (Comedy) for Teyana Taylor, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score.
“The Sinners,” Coogler's 1932 vampire horror, was nominated for Best Picture in the Drama category, and Michael B. Jordan was nominated for Best Actor (Drama), Best Director, Best Original Score, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Original Song. It's been a great year for horror, and really, nothing makes me happier than to see horror recognized at the awards again (last year, Substance was nominated in multiple categories at both the Globes and Oscars). “The Sinners” and “Battle After Another” are hardly comparable in genre, but I'm rooting for both Anderson and Coogler – is it possible to break the statue in half and give a piece to each director?
