«On sort, on marche»: 90 000 personnes inscrites au Grand défi Pierre Lavoie

The weather was on the side of the participants in the Grand Marche of Pierre Lavoie, which began on the streets of Montreal on Sunday at 11 a.m.

“The goal in itself is to say, ‘We go out, we go out,’ and this is accessible to everyone,” said actor Benoit Brière, spokesman for Pierre Lavoie’s Grand Défi.

Of the 120 events planned across the province, 47 took place on Sunday, and the spokesman is pleased with the active participation: “When we relax a little, we may be able to take better care of 'us'.”

More than 90,000 people registered for the march across the province.

In Montreal, people were expected from 9:30 a.m. on the Esplanade Tranquille, in the Quarter of Spectacles. They came from different cities and provinces. A tribute show in honor of the Cowboys Fringants was held on site at 10 a.m.

The march began at 11 a.m. and ended around noon.

More than a hundred municipalities decided to organize their own edition of La Grande Marche Pierre Lavoie.

On Friday it was Saguenay's turn, and on Saturday marchers took to the streets of the provincial capital.

Other cities such as Sherbrooke and Carlton-sur-Mer will also hold events this Sunday.

In Montreal, the start and finish took place at Esplanade Tranquille. Participants drove along Boulevard de Maisonneuve to University Street and then to Avenue des Pins. From there they returned to their starting point along Rue Saint-Denis and then along Rue Sainte-Catherine. The route was five kilometers.
