On-Call Docs and Chick-fil-A Binges – RedState

When a country was founded by some of the most brilliant men in human history, it was never intended to be ruled by a ruling elite, a political caste that would make Marie Antoinette shudder with embarrassment. If you want examples of “Let them eat cake” in action, take a look at some of the advantages and benefits. we pay for our respected (ha) congressmen and senators.

An analysis of congressional data shows that since fiscal year 2019, taxpayers have paid about $30 million for the Office of the Attending Physician, which provides emergency care but also offers its members routine care for just $650 a year.

At least $10 million was spent on House Child Care Center, which provides staff and members with child care at below-market rates, starting at $1,100 a month, data and interviews show. Because Washington, D.C. has some of the highest child care costs, this benefit is popular and there is a waiting list.

I have no idea what the current market prices for child care are in DC, but I do know that when our youngest children were little, in the Denver metro area in the mid-90s, we paid about a thousand dollars a month for two kids at a preschool/daycare chain. It wasn't easy, and I think 1) there's a lot more now and 2) there's even more around the area. Probably several times more. And these people have on-site daycare that costs them a fraction of what daycare would cost in the economy?

A family doctor is also good. I have never worked anywhere that had a full-time doctor. I don't know anyone who has. But this is not the best:

U.S. House staff and members are also enjoying taxpayer dollars, with $30 million spent on food and beverages and $4.1 million on bottled water alone since 2019, an analysis of 3 million lines of House spending data shows.

What the hell are they eating? Truffles and caviar? Raw oysters?

Speaker Johnson, we love you, but how much Chick-fil-A can your people eat?

The House and Republican Conference leadership alone have spent $122,000 on Chick-fil-A over the past six years. Former U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Mississippi, ran individual congressional offices by ordering nearly $15,000 worth of chicken sandwiches and chips from a popular fast-food joint, an analysis by The Center Square found.

Sure, that's over six years, but that's still over $20,000 a year just for chicken strips.

I get it, Chick-fil-A is great food. Unfortunately they are not available in Alaska, but I tried them while visiting family in the lower 48 and yes, they are very good. But remember, Mr. Speaker, your constituents are paying for this. Perhaps a little more taste restraint is in order.

Dangerous rhetoric: Pelosi called Trump a 'vile creature' during 'Off the Rails' interview

I understand that there are not many poor people in Congress. Most of them, let's be honest, were wealthy before their election, with a few notable exceptions; Speaker Johnson, for example, we are told, was and remains a man of modest means. But come on guys, let's bring back the good times at taxpayer expense. Perhaps if you've had to deal with the same issues that concern your constituents day in and day out, like walking across town to see the doctor or telling your kids, “Sorry, tax bill, no Chick-fil-A this week,” then you all can be a little more focused. Especially you Democrats; You people can't even keep the government open.

And, you know, it makes me wonder: Who pays for Chick-fil-A during the closure?

Then, this is it:

Samantha Carter, a spokeswoman for the House Chief Administrative Officer, wrote: “The CAO has no comment. Thank you”. when The Center Square asked for basic information about the costs of various benefits.

You don't say.

This seems appropriate.

Editor's Note: The Schumer shutdown is here. Instead of putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the Radical Democrats forced the government to shut down health care to illegal immigrants. They own it.
