Officials just revealed more information about the shooting that left two National Guard members in critical condition in the District of Columbia… confirming the identity of the suspect and detailing what happened just blocks from the White House.
The FBI, US Attorney's Office and National Guard have just informed the public of a tragic incident in Washington, D.C…. officially confirming that the shooter was a 29-year-old Afghan man named Rahmanullah Lakanwal.
Janine PirroU.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia said the two National Guard members are 24-year-olds Andrew Wolf and 20 year old Sarah Beckstrom — were ambushed by Lakanwala, who was armed with a Smith & Wesson .357 revolver… adding that after the shooting, their fellow Guardsmen quickly moved in to subdue the suspect. She says she believes Wolfe and Beckstrom were sworn in about 24 hours before the shooting.
Pirro says the two remain in critical condition after surgery and their families are with them… adding that Lacanwal remains in hospital under heavy security. She notes that no one else was injured in the shooting.
As for the suspect's background, Pirro says he allegedly has a wife and five children in Washington State… and allegedly drove across the country with the intention of ending up in the District of Columbia. She says Lakanwal allegedly came to the country under Joe BidenOperation Ally Welcome is a DHS program to resettle vulnerable Afghans after the Taliban regained control in 2021.
Pirro says Lacanwal will be charged with three counts of assault with intent to kill while armed and possession of a firearm during a violent crime. He faces 15 years in prison on the charge of assault with intent to kill. She noted that if the guardsmen succumb to their injuries, the charge would be upgraded to first-degree murder.
FBI director Kash Patel also spoke during the press conference, stating that this is an ongoing terrorism investigation and they have already conducted countless interviews with witnesses… as well as people living in Lakanwala's home. He noted that Lakanwal also had connections with US troops in Afghanistan.

By the way, Pirro attacked a reporter when they suggested that the two victims were only in Washington because of the President's orders… raising her voice, saying she wouldn't even discuss whether Wolfe and Beckstrom should have been there… praising Donald Trump to send troops into the city.
As we reported, the troopers were on “high visibility patrol” when the suspect allegedly approached and shot two victims — multiple reports have emerged, citing unnamed sources, that the alleged shooter was Lakanval.
Wolf, one of the National Guard members shot and killed Wednesday, was identified at his former high school after the tragedy … saying their community was “deeply saddened” to learn what happened to one of their graduates.
Governor of West Virginia Patrick Morrisey initially tweeted Wednesday that two Guardsmen were dead … but sent out another tweet 20 minutes later, saying his team was receiving “conflicting reports on the condition of our two Guardsmen and will provide additional updates once we have more complete information.”
