Former President Barack Obama – scolded Latino voters during a conversation with podcast host and comedian Marc Maron published Monday for supporting President Donald Trump in 2024 over inflation fears.
Obama said the country and its progressive wing are being “tested” right now. The former president said he and Maron are part of a generation that sees things getting better over time, but said their positions have never been seriously tested.
“I think it was easy to say, well, yeah, I’m a progressive. But it didn’t cost us anything,” the former president said.
“We could take a position on things that we thought were right, but they were never tested,” he added. “We are being tested now. I think people, including young people, understand that the choices we make have consequences. If you choose not to vote, there is a consequence. If you're a Latino and you're frustrated with inflation and so you decide, you know what, all this rhetoric about Trump doesn't matter, I'm just mad about inflation. And now your sons are being stopped in Los Angeles because they look Latino. trial”.

“There's some clarity now: I wish we weren't being tested like this, but you know what, we probably still need to be shaken out of our complacency,” Obama said.
According to the publication, Obama made a similar argument during a conversation with historian Heather Cox Richardson. New York Times, in June.

“You can be as progressive and socially conscious as you want, and you don’t have to pay for it,” he said.
“You can still make a lot of money. You can still hang out in Aspen and Milan, travel, have a house in the Hamptons and still consider yourself a progressive person,” Obama said. “We now have a situation in which we will all have to be tested in some way, and we will have to decide what our obligations will be.”

Obama said during a June event that that was not the case.
“You might lose some of your donors, if you're a university or a law firm, your bills might go down a little bit, which means you might not be able to renovate the kitchen in your Hamptons home this summer,” he said.
Maron appeared in June that he is ending his podcast, “WTF with Marc Maron,” which had been on the air for 16 years. He told CNN in August: “I don’t want to engage in cultural dialogue with clickbait and garbage. You know, I don’t want to be tied down.”
Obama was his last guest.

Maron told the network that he never intended for the show to be about politics and felt it had run its course.

During the podcast, Maron and Obama discussed Maron's viral observation that liberals were so annoying that “drove America to fascism“, electing Trump again. Obama noted that several years ago he said progressives couldn't just act like scolders “all the time.”
