Zoran and another top New York Officials could see their salaries jump due to a proposed 16% pay hike that council members hope to pass soon, according to reports.

The bill, introduced by Councilwoman Nantasha Williams, a Queens Democrat, would increase members' salaries from $148,500 to $172,500. New York Post reported on Tuesday.

If passed, the salary increase would also apply to the new mayor, public defender, comptroller and borough presidents.

As a result, Mamdani's salary will be nearly $300,000, up from the current $258,000, the newspaper reported.

Legislation will be introduced this week with hearings before the end of the year, allowing the next City Council to vote in January on faster approval. The last time council members received promotions was in 2016.

Interestingly, it was Mamdani who developed the platform focused on accessibility of services for the working class of New York.

When the publication asked her if the council would pass the wage increase bill in January, Williams said, “That's the goal.”

The source also said the wage increase law puts Mamdani in a difficult position. He could veto the bill or approve legislation “to make New York more accessible to the political class,” the source said.
