Re-master the Flaming Sword in Nocturnal 2.
Indie developer Sunnyside Games has announced that a playable demo of the upcoming fiery metroidvania Nocturnal 2 will be available on Steam on January 27. The demo offers over an hour of gameplay and serves as a curated introduction to the game's world, mechanics, and tone. Players will explore the early part of the game, unlock key abilities, master the combat system, and begin to uncover pieces of the story. The team specifically designed the demo to maintain the mystery of the full version, avoiding major narrative or structural spoilers. The game is currently scheduled to release later this year on Nintendo Switch and Steam.
Nocturnal 2 is an atmospheric metroidvania set in the ruined city of Itash, a once great place now engulfed in darkness and decay. Players take on the role of Ardeshir, bearer of the Enduring Flame, who journeys through the city's shadowed depths and towering structures in an attempt to lift a destructive curse from his homeland. Fire plays a central role in both survival and exploration, defining combat encounters and lighting the way forward in a hostile world.
The game features a richly interconnected map that gradually opens up as players unlock new abilities, encouraging repeat visits and discovery. His hand-drawn visuals take inspiration from Persian architecture, creating a distinct and memorable environment. Movement and combat are fast and flexible, allowing for fluid and expressive playstyles. Hidden paths and secret endings further deepen the gameplay, rewarding careful exploration and attention to detail.
